Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GBC) appoints John E. Tedstrom, Founder and President of Transatlantic Partners against AIDS (TPAA) as new Executive Director
New York, NY - The Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GBC) and Transatlantic Partners Against AIDS (TPAA) announced today the appointment of TPAA President and Founder John E. Tedstrom to the position of Executive Director of GBC. The announcement marks the start of a process that will combine the two organizations. Together, GBC and TPAA’s programs span four continents - from Moscow to Johannesburg - leveraging new resources and forging private and public sector partnerships to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS. Tedstrom will begin his new role on August 1; he succeeds Trevor Neilson. GBC Managing Director Joelle Tanguy will serve as Interim Executive Director.
Announcing the move, GBC President and CEO Ambassador Richard Holbrooke said, "We are extremely grateful to Trevor Neilson for his exceptional contributions to the GBC. He took us to a new level and I am deeply grateful to him. He will be sorely missed. Now, by bringing John Tedstrom to the GBC, who has demonstrated outstanding leadership as founder and President of TPAA and initiating the union of our two organizations, we will propel the GBC and the business fight against AIDS to the next level. TPAA’s work in Russia and Ukraine, including its strong business programs, are innovative examples of best practices that have resonance and value in other regions, especially Africa. The core missions of GBC and TPAA are almost identical and bringing them together will significantly enhance the global effort against HIV/AIDS."
Anglo American Chairman and GBC Chairman Sir Mark Moody-Stuart also commented. "I will truly miss working with Trevor Neilson, who has grown the GBC team and significantly contributed to the Coalition’s rapid expansion and global presence. At the same time, we are thrilled to welcome John Tedstrom to the Coalition and anticipate that the alliance between the two organizations will result in great strides toward overcoming the AIDS pandemic."
"GBC is a world-class organization with an amazing team of dedicated and brilliant colleagues whom I have long admired," said Tedstrom. "It will be an honor to work with them to strengthen the response of the business community and to advocate on behalf of people around the world who are affected by HIV/AIDS. I am of course excited to work with Richard Holbrooke whose vision and leadership on so many issues has made a critical difference around the world."
"The global business community is a vital partner in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The union of these fine institutions will strengthen our work in Eurasia and create opportunities for us to add value in countries where GBC is already making a difference. I look forward to redoubling my personal efforts to fight AIDS with our new colleagues from GBC," said Konstantin Gryshchenko, former Foreign Minister of Ukraine and a member of the TPAA Board of Directors.
"John’s appointment will add critically important skills and expertise to GBC’s global team," said Trevor Neilson. "His knowledge of Russia, Ukraine and Central Asia, coupled with his experience founding and running one of the preeminent AIDS organizations in the world makes him the ideal candidate to take GBC to the next level. I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished at GBC and leave with deep gratitude to Ambassador Holbrooke, Sir Mark Moody-Stuart, Bertrand Collomb, Cyril Ramaphosa, and the team for their friendship, hard work and commitment to the fight against this terrible disease."
